I have a small confession - I used to hate pineapple. Looking back, I'm not entirely sure how this was possible because pineapple is so delicious! It is one of the best fruits - especially when its made into slushies! These pineapple slushies are so good, and so easy! I want to drink one every hot summer day now!

What are the ingredients in pineapple slushies?

There are only 4 ingredients in pineapple slushies:

pineapple, ice, water and sugar are shown
  • water - I find water is necessary for the blender to blend to the correct texture - you can also use pineapple juice instead for a very strong flavor
  • ice - just a little to start the slushie texture
  • pineapple - frozen pineapple works best because the colder the ingredients the better the texture, but I like to freeze my own pineapple for this recipe
  • sugar - completely optional, but definitely adds that classic slushie taste, you can use honey instead if preferred

How to make a pineapple slushie:

It is actually incredibly easy to make pineapple slushies as long as you have a decent blender. I personally use Blendtec, and I also love visitng my parents and using their Vitamix. The blender needs to be powerful if youd like to be able to get that nice, thick, slush texture

Step one: First, blend ice cubes and half of the water until smooth

water and ice blended, then pineapple added in

Step two: add the frozen pineapple one cup at a time, blending well after each addition. Add remaining water as neccessary to get the frozen bits to blend. This can take some time - especially if youre using a less powerful blender

Step three: add the sugar if using, blend well, and pour into glasses and serve immediately!

Can I use fresh pineapple instead of frozen?

Frozen pineapple works best, so if you have the time you should cube it and put it in the freezer for several hours. If you just need to make these pineapple slushies immediately and find you only have fresh pineapple then blend 2 cups of the pineapple first with 1/4 cup of water, and add about 2 cups of ice, or until you get a good slushie texture.

Can I use canned pineapple for pineapple slushies?

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of the taste of canned pineapple - but if you are then go for it! Drain it and follow the same instructions as above for fresh pineapple!

Tips to get the perfect pineapple slushie:

  • Try not to overwork your blender - add as much water as you need to keep things running smoothly
  • you may need to start and stop the blender several times to push the mixture back down - i promise it is worth it!
  • If your blender comes with a plunger you can stick in the top that works really well for this recipe
  • Add the sugar in a little at a time if you don't like it overly sweet and taste after each addition - that way you can find the best amount for your tastes
  • I have a large blender that can accomodate this amount of slushie - if you have a smaller blender you may need to half the recipe
